BE ALL YOU CAN BE NOW!

I used to believe school comes first before anything. Go to nursery & primary school, secondary school, the university then serve before I could do any other thing I have passion for. So, I focused on school, read to pass every class, went for extra lessons just to be the best. I didn’t have time for any other thing. 

So many opportunities came by, I didn’t take advantage of them. I just wanted to graduate, forgetting there’s a tough life after school. I will have to take care of myself, provide for myself, pay bills and all. To do this, I should have so many sources of income. 

In 2020, after the lockdown in Nigeria, I decided to learn makeup artistry. I was motivated because, during the pandemic, so many people lost their jobs, first-class graduates, hardworking graduates that have families to take care of, bills to take care of… what if they had learnt a skill? What if they had their businesses?? It would have been a lot easier for them. With all these thoughts, I decided to learn new skills before the end of 2021, at least five (5) skills.  

I started my journey in December 2020, I learnt makeup artistry ( it felt like I achieved something for the first time). School resumed, I resumed as a brand new person, I was making extra cash, I thought that was enough but it wasn’t. I got caught up with school work, so learning any new thing was on hold but I didn’t give up.

 

Fast forward to September or October ( I can’t remember), a classmate of mine posted a link for an internship. I ignored it at first but I thought about it, the school is on break and I’m less busy for a 6weeks internship. I registered and just chose CONTENT CREATION ( I do not have any experience, I’ve never even written anything just normal school stuff).

The internship started, we were grouped for the capstone project, there was a part we had to use storytelling to advertise the internship, so the team lead assigned me to write a story. I picked my pen and I was just writing and writing and writing till I was able to finish the short story. I was so happy I was able to pull that off, I sent it to some of my friends that are writers and they said it was nice. Those compliments made me confident and the affirmation that I was good at it. 

Along the line, while trying to understand what a “storyboard” was, I came across an animation website that caught my attention. I was determined to learn it so I registered for their live sessions to learn more( I have the certificate too). Mind you, I’m still doing the internship program.  I came across another google training on digital marketing, it has been so much fun and I know It would still be fun and I will get to learn more things. 

It’s November already, but not close to acquiring my Goal (5 skills) but I can say the year has been an interesting one and I’m a better person . I enjoy learning new things now, you never can tell when it would be useful, just gather all the things gatherable and do not give up. BE ALL YOU CAN BE NOW!! Do not wait till it is needed!!
